The correct answer is Salutary neglect. Answer choice B
Salutary neglect was before the American Revolution. It is unofficial British policy of law enforcement of parliamentary laws with respects to American colonies. It occurred during the 1600s and 1700s. This unofficial policy was initiated by Prime Minister Robert Walpole.
Further Explanation
The purpose of the policy was to relax the implementation of strict regulations that was imposed on the American colonies.
Walpole and some advocates of this policy where of the opinion that implementing the policy would bring some relief to colonial trade and could also allow British to pay more attention on European politics. Walpole had the view that the policy would further cement British role as the world power.
The policy was unwritten and unnamed. However, on March 22, 1775, Edmund burke addressed the parliament and cited the policy “wise and salutary neglect” as the main reason while commercial activities of the north American holding was booming.
Truly, the salutary neglect did have a good effect on American trade because they are allowed to do business with non-British entities. Though, the policy had some unintended effect both politically and economically.
It allowed independent trading within American colonies, and also promotes American identity. Some historians were of the view that salutary neglect policy did helped American on the path to independence from British.
