am i correct.

1. 1 gallon is equal to 8 pints. There would be 7 pints left after pouring 1 pint from it.
2. You simply have to add the numbers with the same units
3 + 4 = 7 pounds
8 + 2 = 10 ounces
3. There are 3 feet in one yard
2 yards is 6 feet
What remains is
24 - 6 = 18 feet

All of these make use of the expansion
   (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²
You would do well to memorize this "formula." Of course, it also helps to be able to double (or halve) a number, and to know the squares of small integers.
