Find the area of the shaded figure.

Find the area of the entire shape first, including the gap. Then, be sure to find the area of the gap. Then, subract the area of the whole rectangle to the area of the gap ( rectangle minus gap) and voila!

Area of entire object= 10 units x 7 units= 70 units.

Area of the gap= 2 units x 6 units= 12 units.

Area of the shaded figure= 70 units - 12 units= 58 units.

So, 58 units should be the correct answer.

In a  30°-60°-90 °  triangle   the sides are in the ratio 1 : 2 : . (for the definition of measuring angles by "degrees," see topic 12.) note that the smallest side, 1, is opposite the smallest angle,30 °; while the largest side, 2, is opposite the largest angle,  90 °. (theorem 6).
