Let's turn 4 1/2 into an improper fraction.

Multiply 4 by 2, then add 1.

8 + 1 = 9

9/2 = 4 1 /2

To divide 9/2 by 3/1, flip 3/1 to 1/3 and multiply.

9/2 * 1/3
If you divide both of the numbers by 3, 9 becomes 3 and 3 becomes 1.
3/2 * 1/1 = 3/2
