well first you would have to find the greatest conmen denominator which is 12 bc 3x4 is 12.

Next you would multiple the numerator by the opposite original denominator ie. 1x4=4 and 1x3=3.

Now you have 3/12 and 4/12. Add them together for 7/12. Subtract 7 from 12 to get 5 now giving you 5/12.
