Sharon works at job A and job B for 18 and 17 hours respectively.

SOLUTION:

Given, Sharon is working her way through school.  

She works two part-time jobs for a total of 35 hours a week.  

Job A pays $6.10 per hour, and Job B pays $7.40 per hour.  

We have to find how many hours did she work at each job the week that she made $235.60.

Now, let the number of hours worked at A be "t", then number of hours worked at B will be 35 – t hours.

Now, according to the given information,  

6.1 x t + 7.4 x (35 – t) = 235.6

6.1t + 35 x 7.4 – 7.4t = 235.6

7.4t – 6.1t  = 259 – 235.6

1.3t = 23.4

t = 18

So, she works 18 hours at A, then, she works 35 – 18 = 17 hours at B.

Hence, Sharon works at job A and job B for 18 and 17 hours respectively.
