Jacqui has grades of 87 and 83 on her first two algebra tests. if she wants an average of at least 74, what possible scores can she make on her third test?

Find this:

 87 + 83 + x
= 74
           3

Mult. both sides by 4:  87+83+x = 222, and  170 + x = 222

Then x = 222-170 = 52.

With a score of 52 or better on her 3rd test, J. would have an average of 74 or better.

Well we want to find out how much more will it cost to rent a ski boat than a sailboat for four hours. 

All we have to do is Multiply 73 by 4 for the sailboat which gives you $292 

Now we do the same for the ski boat. $88 * 4 = $352 

So we now have to find out how much more it will cost for a ski boat than a sail boat. All we do is subtract 352 by 292
