From personal experience, before going to take the MCAT, go volunteer somewhere you might see yourself in the future (pedi, rehab, er, etc.) and then decide if you like it and if you can do it. If both are yes, then the Learning part will come to you as you volunteer because real life learning is the best. Dreaming is good but it is not reality. If you do everything before and you end up not what you dreamt it would be, you just wasted time and money, both things that you can't get back. Your parents are just being cautious.
