(priya) 8 x y = 8y and 3 x 8 = 24 so it would still be 8y-24.

(han) 2(4y-12) is basically 2 x (4y-12). 2 x 4y = 8y and 2 x 12= 24. So it would still be 8y-24

The distributive property is actually quite simple after you understand it!

example:

4(7x+9)

Basically you distribute the number outside of the parenthesis (in this case 4) to the numbers inside of the parenthesis (in this case 7x+9)

4 x (7x + 9)

First we can do four times 7x. We can just pretend that we are multiply 4 and 7. 4x7=28. So that is 28x.

Then we can do 4 x 9 (which is the other number in the parenthesis) and that equals to 36.

So basically the answer (to my example problem) would be 48x + 36

You can apply this to most all of the distributive property questions that you have!
