First we are going to graph y = - 0.44x + 12.6

Now.. We are going to graph y = - 7.21x - 55.6

Now that we have graphed both of our functions we know that the locations where the two lines meet otherwise known as the intersect is the solution to the equation.

Now that we know coordinate of x at the intersection point of the two lines is: - 10.074, we can input this number in as a substitute for our x because x = - 10.074

Therefor to verify,

y = - 0.44(-10.074) + 12.6

y = 17.03256

and now we substitute y into the other equation and find for x...

17.03256 = - 7.21x - 55.6

x = - 10.074
