(a²+b²=c²)The pythagorean theorem is used to find the hypotenuse or side of a right triangle. And nope.
Step-by-step explanation:
The shorter of the 3 sides are "a" and "b" and the hypotenuse is "c".
The reason you can't do c=√(a+b) is simply because that just isn't how math works (ok hush I know that's a dumb reason lol but just hear me out ok?).
For example, if you have a triangle whose side lengths are 3,4, and 5, you can plug that into the pythagorean theorem to find out that 25 does in fact equal 25.
[3²+4²=5²
9+16=25
25=25]
but... if you were to do it with the equation c=√(a+b) that would not work because 5 does not equal 2.64576... (at least not that I'm aware of...).
[5=√(3+4)
5=√7
5=2.64575
nope.
