Solution:

Need to determine factors 12 x squared minus 4x minus one

This means that we need to factorize following expression

$12 x^{2}-4 x-1$

On splitting the middle term in such a way that sum of two split terms must be -4x and product of two split terms must be $-12 x^{2}$ we get,

$12 x^{2}-6 x+2 x-1$

= 6x(2x -1) + 1 (2x - 1 )

Combining the terms we get

=> (6x + 1) (2x – 1)

Hence factors of $12 x^{2}-4 x-1$ is (6x + 1) and (2x – 1)
