Answers:
Evaluate each expression.
1. 18-2*3=12
2. 4^2/8-3^3*(1/3)+4*6=17
3. 5(36-31)+2*7=39
4. (70-25)/(7+8)=3
Evaluate each expression when a=4, b=2, x=1/2, and y=1/3.
5. 8a-2b=28
6. 10x+9y=8
7. 48x^2-(3a-5b)=10
8. (a^2+b^2)/(5y^2)=36
Solution:
Evaluate each expression.
1. 18-2*3=18-6=12
2. 4^2/8-3^3*(1/3)+4*6=(4*4)/8-(3*3*3)*(1/3)+24=16/8-27*(1/3)+24
4^2/8-3^3*(1/3)+4*6=2-(27*1)/3+24=2-27/3+24=2-9+24=17
3. 5(36-31)+2*7=5(5)+14=25+14=39
4. (70-25)/(7+8)=(45)/(15)=3
Evaluate each expression when a=4, b=2, x=1/2, and y=1/3.
5. 8a-2b=8(4)-2(2)=32-4=28
6. 10x+9y=10(1/2)+9(1/3)=(10*1)/2+(9*1)/3=10/2+9/3=5+3=8
7. 48x^2-(3a-5b)=48(1/2)^2-( 3(4)-5(2) )=48( (1)^2/(2)^2 )-(12-10)
48x^2-(3a-5b)=48( (1*1)/(2*2) )-(2)=48(1/4)-2=(48*1)/4-2=48/4-2=12-2=10
8. (a^2+b^2)/(5y^2)=(4^2+2^2)/( 5(1/3)^2 )=(4*4+2*2)/( 5(1^2/3^2) )
(a^2+b^2)/(5y^2)=(16+4)/( 5((1*1)/(3*3)) )=20/( 5(1/9) )=20/ ( (5*1)/9 )=20/(5/9)
(a^2+b^2)/(5y^2)=20*(9/5)=(20*9)/5=180/5=36
