Multiply 2 and 4
x^2 - 7x - 8

Divide by 2 for both numbers to bring the 2 back that was multiplied

x - 4 = 0
+4 on both sides
x = 4

(2x + 1)
2x + 1 = 0
-1 on both sides
2x = -1
/2 on both sides
x = -1/2

x = 4
x = -1/2
