Speed of the friend

v_2 = 2 m/s away from us

now relative velocity with respect to our friend is given as

$v_{12} = v_1 - v_2$

$v_{12} = 5 - 2$

$v_{12} = 3 m/s$

so here the relative velocity will be 3 m/s towards the friend
