The two countries with land claims in Canada were France and Great Britain.
Explanation:
Both French and English had colonial interests in the territory of today Canada. Specifically, the French settled on the east coast, in the territory of Quebec and its surroundings; while the British did the same in the west, from British Columbia to Ontario.
This proximity between the two colonial powers led to different minor clashes until, in 1754, the French and Indian War finally broke out. This war ended in 1763 with the Treaty of Paris, in which Britain acquired, thanks to its victory, the French territories in Canada.
