During the middle ages, a Lord was a character of nobility. They generally had a high political standing and were rich.
The definition of a vassal, especially in the middle ages, could mean two different things. A vassal is either a piece of land that is virtually a slave to its owner, or a literal slave.
Depending on the context of this question, the relationship between Lord and vassal would either be owner/slave or landowner/subordinate land. Keep in mind, vassal is generally used with a negative connotation.
