The correct answer is - demands for more housing.
As more and more people where moving in in Washington state, as well as the increased birthrates after the World War II, led to significant growth of the population in this state. The increased population led to demands for more housing. The process of urbanization was taking more and more place, which led to increased size of the towns and cities in Washington. The increased population though, despite the slight problem with the housing, actually benefited the state a lot, as Washington was able to offer a lot jobs in numerous sectors, thus the economy was also growing with the growing population.
