This millennium has seen the rise of the digital age. Cameras using film are being replaced by digital ones and smartphones. Ten-key calculators have, for the most part, been replaced by computerized ones. Work done on typewriters thirty years ago is now being accomplished using keyboards. Many companies that once used paper products to record and keep information now do so on computers along with various peripheral devices. Communication between individuals has also changed dramatically with the rise of this digital age. Is texting between friends slowly replacing a good, old-fashioned phone call (perhaps because it takes less time)? Have you been at a table with friends or family, and most are catching up on social media rather than having a face-to-face conversation? Would you rather e-mail an acquaintance than sit down and write a letter with pen and paper? With these questions in mind, discuss whether you agree or disagree that the digital age is causing people to become more isolated by enticing them to interact less with others on a personal level.
