1. Why PILAGRES they survive?
Life in Plymouth colony was very hard and more than half the Pilgrims died from freezing and starvation. However, the local native tribe helped them survive by showing them how to plant corn. The large corn harvest in the fall of 1621 led the Pilgrims to have a major feast in celebration: the first Thanksgiving.

3. What happened to the Native Americans in New England by 1676?
This tactic, along with European weapons and diseases, nearly destroyed all tribal Native American life in New England by 1676.
4. Why did this happen?
In both Virginia and Massachusetts, the English settlers repeatedly fought with the Native Americans. The Native tribes initially helped the colonists survive- giving them food, trading with them, and showing them how to farm crops like corn and squash. However, as more English settlers arrived, the colonists wanted more and more land. They would cut down forests to make farms, pushing the natives out of their homeland. Violence with native tribes increased each year. Tribes would raid the English settlements, killing men, women and children. The settlers would respond even more harshly, often burning entire native villages to the ground. The colonists would turn the tribes against each other, making alliances with some to fight others.
