Cyrus The Great is also known as Cyrus II, ruled Persian 559-530 BC. He was the first king of the Achaemenid dynasty. He then expanded his kingdom into a mighty empire. Cyrus conquered lands surrounding Mesopotamia. In October 539, the Persian king, Cyrus took Babylon and captured its king Nabonidus.

After the Persian conqueror of Babylonia, Cyrus permitted the Jews to go to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple, Bais Hamikdash. It also formally ends the Babylonian Captivity or Babylonian Exile in 538 BCE.  

Babylonian Captivity is the period when Jewish deported to Babylon, the first deportation began in 597 B.C.E.The next deportations took place in 586 B.C.E. when Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon.
