The Freedmen bureau was set up to assist the integration of the freed slaves into the society.
They fed the slaves and at the same time helped them in finding their lost relatives as a result of the slavery. They offered the slaves good health services and helped negotiate their working conditions.
They offered legal aid in marital issues and also made available public schools to the former slaves.
