Synaptic pruning is a natural process by which overproduced neural elements or brain structures including synapses, neurons, axons, dendrites are pruned or eliminated from the nervous system and the brain. During synaptic pruning, the brain prunes or eliminates excess synapses in other to improve the neural network efficiency. In other words synaptic pruning is the way by which the brain eliminate connections that are no longer required.
Synaptic pruning occurs between early age and early 20s.
