A student set up an experiment looking at the movement of water through a selectively permeable membrane. She attached membranes that were permeable to water, but not to sucrose, to the broad end of one thistle tube. She thought that she filled the thistle tube with 10% sucrose and the beaker with distilled water. When she measured the height of water in the thistle tube, she saw the results shown in this graph.
