The sound first enters through the auricle (pinna) the part of the ear you can see, then travels through the ear canal. It the reaches the ear drum which is vibrated by the sound waves. The ear drum is also called the tympanic membrane and is a piece of tissue that is tightly stretched. The vibration from the ear drum then moves the ossicles, which are tiny bones in the inner ear called the hammer (malleus), anvil (incus) and stirrup (stapes). The ossicles are attached to the cochlea, which has a snail-like shape and is filled with fluid and lined with tiny hairs. The ossicle movement move the fluid in the cochlea which stimulates the tiny hairs. Then the information is transferred to the brain
