C. volley principle
Explanation:
The Voley Principle (also called the Voley Theory) was proposed by the research team of Ernest Weaver and Bray Bray in the 1930s as a complementary part of the theory of hearing frequency. This principle mainly states the individual fiber groups (neurons) of the auditory system respond to a sound stimulus with successive impulses (also called volleys) that are activated to match these stimuli.
These impulses are action potentials fired slightly out of phase between each one. So, when combined, a higher sound frequency can be encoded and this signal sent to the brain.
It is important to note that experimentaly it was tested that this only happens with sounds with frequencies between 500 Hz and 5000 Hz.
