Firstly, when looking at side characters in Shakespeare's play you can always tell if a character is offering comic relief if they speak in prose. In Romeo and Juliet especially the Nurse and sometimes the minister are the main uses of comic relief in the play. In this stanza Shakespeare starts by having the nurse say they are a "pitiful case" meaning bad at playing or doing poorly. Shakespeare uses the nurses jests to offer comic relief towards the musicians and lead into Peter and the musicians section of comedy. Shakespeares words also give a key into comic relief. For example Peter uses "play me merry dump" to offer a joke at the musicians. He also uses these words because Peter is given to be in a bad mood describing his "heart is full of woe". They go back and forth, the musicians say they will not play for him until he pays them and Peter says he will give a gleek which is a joke or jest ridiculing someone. He also says he will give them a minstrel which can be alluding to getting someone else to play for him and jesting at them since a minstrel is a singer or musician.
