A- I will avoid having sexual relations until I see the doctor again
Explanation:
Cone biopsy is a procedure done to remove abnormal cervical tissue. This procedure leaves the cervical region tender and prone to infection upon exposure to pathogens. The nurse therefore, gives instructions on postoperative sexual activity and other activities involving hygiene, to reduce the risk of infection through exposure of the area to pathogens which could be present in semen or worse still, viruses such as HIV. Upon exposure of the open area to these pathogens before the healing process is completed, infection could occur and would lead to postoperative complications. It is therefore advisable that the patient is not exposed to sexual intercourse for about 4 weeks after the procedure, to facilitate proper healing of the area. When the healing process is verified complete in a routine postoperative follow up, sexual activities can then be resumed
