C. He accused the Church of favoring opinion over truth.
Explanation:
Galileo was a Catholic, but he despised above all things arguments based on the principle of authority. Apparently, this irreducible critical spirit had inherited it from his father who taught him to freely doubt of anything in order to seek the truth. On the other side, the Church was concerned about modern science for two reasons: the first is that it promoted free interpretations of the Holy Scriptures, and the second is that the Heliocentric model, supported by Galileo's observations, was associated with an ancient pagan influence. In the trial, Galileo said that the Catholic elites were favoring opinion and the principle of authority over truth. However, in the end, he had to deny his observed evidence in order to save his life from being burnt at the bonfire under the charge of heresy.
