At the end of world war i, many new democracies were established in europe. in the years between the two world wars, what happened to most of these democracies?

most of them were born out of Austrian-Hungarian empire (this empire got desintegrated after the defeat in 1918). Between two wars these democracies became threatened by authoritarian regimes or by Nazi Germany.
