not only did their political philosophies differ, but also their economic systems. the soviet union was strongly socialist and the united states believed in capitalism. both hated one another and thought their side was the only way to run a successful country. what it came down to was that both countries were terrified of the other's ideologies being imposed on them. neither wanted to convert, for they felt it would be their downfall. it was a battle of ideologies.
