The correct answer is D): Brown v. Board of Education.

The Brown v. Board of Education started in 195O. It involved an African American student called Linda Brown who wanted to enter an all-white school. Her request was denied.

Although a previous case had settled the precedent that education should be separate but equal, Brown claimed that this was being violated as this was absolutely not the case.

In 1954 the Court´s verdict was to agree with the Browns by following the 14th Amendment which said they should be treated equally and ordered desegregation at schools. Nevertheless, it did not specify how this should be done.

After this verdict, Georgia refused to follow it. Therefore, in 1960, the Sibley Commission was founded by John Sibley in order to ask people what their feelings were about the desegregation verdict. The majority of the citizens were against it and they claimed they preferred that the schools were closed.

Consequently, the Sibley Commission let each district choose whether they wanted to integrate students or not.
