"Initiation" is a short story written by author Sylvia Plath. it tells the story of a girl called Millicent who wants to be a part of a high school sorority. In order o be accepted as a member, Millicent has to complete certain activities. While she takes part of the initiation activities, she starts to question herself, and if she really does want to belong in that community.
Millicent realizes that she does not want to fit in like the rest of the girls at the sorority. The conflict leads Millicent to change, through the symbolism o the heather birds, she realizes that she rather be her unique self than a simple flock of birds. So she decides to revolt against the whole process of initiation and not be accepted into the sorority.
