Passage: The Second Great Awakening The Second Great Awakening was a religious revival, or renewal, period influencing the
United States. Many religions had a large increase in members, especially seen in the
Methodist and Baptist churches. Before the Civil War broke out the new devotion to
religion created a culture that tried to apply Christian teachings to solving the problems
