While the industrial revolution had created a huge shift in socio-economic conditions of women, most still lived a the traditional household where the man ran the house and the women cooked and cleaned.

However, all this changed with the first World War. As more and more men went to the front lines, women were need to take up many jobs.

For the first time, women learned new skills, trained to become technicians and supervisors and enjoyed a higher wage.

This created a whole new generation of women who could work on their own, earn on their own, and enjoyed an amazing freedom.

However, things were not always smooth. Many of these women were seen as 'moral decay' to the society and soon lost their jobs as the war ended and the men came back to take over the jobs.
