As Sherman approached Savannah he eased his
campaign because he believed the Confederates had
suffered enough.
Sherman's series of victories over a period of six months
caused "massive destruction throughout Georgia.
Sherman burned Atlanta and laid siege to Savannah,
destroying property and lives in each place.
Most battles in Sherman's march were Confederate
victories.
