The correct answer is B. In 1511, Malacca was conquered by Portugal.
Explanation:
The news about the riches of Malacca attracted the attention of Manuel I, king of Portugal, who sent Admiral Diogo Lopes de Sequeira to find Malacca and make a commercial pact with his ruler as representative of Portugal. Sequeira arrived in Malacca in 1509, becoming the first European to arrive in Southeast Asia.
Sequeira was well received by Sultan Mahmud Shah, however, a group of Muslims from Goa (then held by the Ottoman Empire) came before the Sultan's court convincing him that the Portuguese were a serious threat. Mahmud then decided to capture several of Sequeira's men, killed others and tried to attack the four Portuguese ships, which however managed to escape. After this incident, the Portuguese were convinced that the conquest was the only way to be able to settle in Malacca.
In April 1511, Afonso de Albuquerque sailed from Goa to Malacca with a force of about 1,200 men and seventeen ships. He made a series of demands to the Sultan, among them he requested permission to build a fortress near the city. Obviously, all the demands were rejected and the conflict broke out: after forty days of fighting, Malaca fell to the Portuguese on 24 August.
Albuquerque, preventing future counterattacks by Mahmud, designed and built a fortress on the former site of the Sultan's palace and remained in Malacca until November 1511, preparing its defenses. Sultan Mahmud Shah was forced to flee from Malacca.
