Three battles mainly Saratoga, Monmouth Courthouse and Camden were enforcing the British under General Cornwell's to abandon the Carolinas and head to Virginia.
Explanation:
In the year 1777, the battle of Saratoga was fought between the American forces and colonists. This was considered to be a major boost to the Revolutionary war. Around 5,895 British and Hessian army troops lay down their arms before the Americans troops.
Another major setback for the British army is that on their way from Philadelphia the American troops stopped them from moving further into their territory at Monmouth, New Jersey in the year 1778. And at the battle of Camden very small troop headed by General Cornwell’s fought against the American force under the leadership of Major General Horatio Gates in 1780.
And finally, he admitted the defeat at the battle of Yorktown, Virginia in the year 1781 where he was held captive after surrendering around 8000 of his soldiers to the American troops.
