According to the world health organization, body mass index is a statistics that indicates the ratio of a persons weight to their body volume. The center of disease control uses the table to classify children from ages 2 to 20. Because Body mass index values change as children grow, the center for disease control uses percentiles rather than fixed values for Body Mass Index. Percentiles prove a basis of comparison for Body Mass Index over time. Under weight— less than 5th percentile
Healthy weight— 5th percentile to less than the 85th percentile
Overweight— 85th percentile to less than the 95th percentile
Obese— equal to or greater than the 95th percentile
