Explanation: The atmosphere is the layer of gases around the earth. The atmosphere is composed of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 0.9% carbon dioxide, argon, methane, ect. The atmosphere is vitally important to support complex life, such as ourselves. There is just the right balance of gases needed for life. If there were too little oxygen, we would die. If there were to much oxygen, we would get permanent lung damage and eventual blindness. The nitrogen dilutes the oxygen in the atmosphere, because too much can cease life.
The ozone layer is located in the stratosphere, and its main role is to deflect dangerous ultraviolet rays from the sun. Without it, life as we know it would cease. Ground level ozone, however, is a pollutant and can cause death if continually exposed.
Air pressure is the weight of the atmosphere's air molecules.
Main factors that influence our weather is the sun's radiation, earth's axial tilt, latitude and longitude, air pressure, and abundance of water.
Wind is a result of a certain rising mass of air. When air rises, air in the upper atmosphere rushes in to fill the void left by the rising air. This phenomenon is what we perceive as wind.
The dew point is the temperature at which water droplets condense to form dew.
Clouds are a result of air rising and condensing onto particles called cloud condensation nuclei. When that happens, a cloud is formed. Adiabatic cooling is also responsible for how clouds form. The main types of clouds are cumulus, stratus, cirrus, and lenticular.
Precipitation is any sort of water from the atmosphere. Precipitation can be rain, snow, hail, sleet, freezing rain, ect. For example, ocean water is always evaporating, gets stored in a cloud, and falls as precipitation. This precipitation gets absorbed as groundwater, surface runoff, ect. Fun fact: water from your fridge may have came from the ocean. You would expect it to be salty, but it isn't. Salt is too heavy to evaporate.
There are many types of air masses. The three main ones are polar, continental, and tropical.
A maritime tropical air mass is an air mass that was formed over a tropical ocean. The characteristics of the air mass would be wet and humid.
