From that particular list, directing is the one where you work in entertainment but not in front of an audience.
This happens to be a topic in which I have a great personal interest. I've been fascinated with all types of radio communication all my life, and I actually worked as a radio 'DJ' for almost 10 years. I pondered the question: What is it about radio that's so fascinating ? This is the answer I came up with, and I think it also applies to this question: Radio, TV, and directing are attractive to shy exhibitionists ! These are people who believe they can entertain others, and they WANT to put themselves out there. But they're so shy and lacking in self-confidence that they can't bare to watch how other people react to them. So they go for the one-way entertainment ... radio, TV, recording, directing, and even writing ... where you put your work out there to entertain other people, but you never have to face the reactions of the audience as they experience your work.
