Protagoras
Explanation:
Protagoras is regarded as the first Sophist ( ancient Greece teachers who specialized philosophy and rhetoric ). A sophist stands for "wise maker". In ancient Greece, nobility as a virtue was taught by philosophers in order to make a worthy king.
Protagoras talked about virtue of life and political life documented in history for his extensive contribution. He propagated the ideals of virtue in pursuit of knowledge and human subjectivity. Protagoras stressed on reason and understanding that involves language as medium. He is famous for the maxim:
"Man is the measure of all things; of things that are not, that they are not; of things that are, that they are."
These lines created a lot of controversy as it meant that man is the ultimate source of moral value not God. Such a comment was unusual and bold making man the center of Universe. However, it has different narratives and interpretations based on the society and culture as well as time period.
