Explanation:
The digestive system is composed of the gastrointestinal tract that starts in the mouth and ends in the anus. All the gastrointestinal tract is composed for the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and anus. Organs like liver, pancreas and gallbladder are part of the digestive system helping to digest the food by enzymes.
Digestion is the process of break the food and releases the nutrients (proteins, vitamin, fats, carbohydrates, etc.) Each part of the digestive system helps to move food and liquids through de gastrointestinal track. The process starts in the mouth chewing the food making it in small pieces, the food pass to the esophagus where the peristalsis starts, which consist in muscular contractions like waves that moves the food toward the stomach avoiding return ( ¡even if you eat upside down the food moves into the stomach!) where the food is processed with acid, enzymes, moves, etc. making the chyme. Then, peristalsis continues in the small intestine, moving the chyme and help to absorb the nutrients towards the blood. Finally, waste is transported in the large intestine and waste is excreted.
