The author states that although she is not an illegal immigrant, her friend was and was quite shaken by the situation.

Deporting and depriving immigrants as she would be immensely cruel, for this reason the author reinforces the need for public policies and government projects that allow immigrants like her friend the freedom to live fully in the only country she knows as home .
