Firstly, it cannot be A because we read BEFORE Chatham Institute's mentioning that she planned to be an artist already. And even then, her going to the Institute did not change her way of wanting to be an artist.
It's not B, mostly because she was simply bored of the still-life art that she produced that seemed to mimic everyone else's. The cityscapes came much later when she learned how to paint abstractly and her new home of New York was a result of her success with her art reaching into a gallery.
It's not D because while Chatham Institute taught her many things, and she even received a scholarship for her art skills, she had much more to learn after the years of her graduation.
Therefor the answer is C, and here's why; she left Chatham even though she was warmly welcomed and praised there, and her art was unique. Chatham was her way of realizing that what she wanted to do was beyond what they were teaching her, and therefore gave her a goal to accomplish. She learned new creative ways to beautifully express the world with her art, and she went across the country being a teacher, or taught herself.
This is why the answer is C.
