(1) A second reason that we should switch our school mascot from
the Hildale Chickens to the Hilldale Bobcats is that bobcats have an
important historical connection to our region and our town. (2) Even
though the ve been forced to move on because of overdevelopment,
these hills we call home were once teeming with the rugged animals,
and they greeted the region's first Norwecjan settlers who would later
establish Hildale (3) Our first majer, Olaf Crumble, kept a boocat as a
pet until his second wite objected. (4 Some people say we need to
embrace the present, not the past, and they believe the chicken mascot
should remain to represent our thriving egg packing industry (5)
Industries come and go, but our history is forever and stands as the
betrock of our common identity (6) In closing, the boocat connects us
to that persevering, pioneer spirit that we've lost, and replacing the
chicken with a bobcat will be a positive step toward reclaiming it
