What does the setting in this passage help convey?
He stopped, backed up, and entered a narrow dirt road
almost hidden by trees. Five hundred yards down, the
road ran parallel to a fenced-in field. Charlie parked in a
cleared area deeply rutted by frozen tractor tracks. The
gate was locked. In the spring, Andy thought, there will
be cows here, and a dog that chases them, but now the
field was unmarked and bare.
O Andy's desire to get away from the field
O Andy's discomfort in the cold wilderness
O Charlie's anticipation about the upcoming hunt

The answer is C: They caused him some discomfort.
This excerpt from Kafka´s Metamorphosis is memorable and perhaps one of the most fascinating and troubling opening lines in a story. The narrator tells us that Samsa was having difficult dreams that caused him discomfort, perhaps enough to wake him up, and right after that, Kafka tells us that, in spite of what horrible dreams Samsa may have been having, they wouldn´t begin to compare to what would follow: waking up turned into a horrible bug for no apparent reason.
