Zara and I had always been friends. We were always close. We grew up together, making it easier for me to tell her when she is lying or not. Zara was like my sister from another mother. We were so close to the point that we know each other’s secrets. I know her like the back of my hand, or so I thought.
We would always wait for each other after school. Since high school, started, Zara and I had been separated in classes which to one of those tantrums that I threw.
Zara was one of smartest in school while I was someone who excels in a different field. Many have always thought that Zara was a nerd because she’s smart while I was in the dancing team. People knew me for my dancing skills but I didn’t pay heed. Dancing was my passion, I was so in love with it that I fail to notice that it all changed from my passion.
Because high school was the era of popularity, Zara had often been bullied. Sadly, she wouldn’t even tell me about it. She started avoiding me while I tried reaching out to her. She kept me in the dark. As much as I wanted to pry, I didn’t. It’s not that I don’t care but pushing Zara out of her zone would lead to a fight.
Days passed the bullying went to a higher level that I couldn’t take it anymore. I was currently changing in the locker room when I heard whimpers and shouts in one of the stalls. At first, I didn’t pay heed but then when I heard the familiar voice begging, my eyes widen and rush to the stalls
Zara was their crying while, the bullies where ransacking her bag, tearing her books and notes.
Then I saw red.
I heaved a sigh as Zara and I left the principal’s office. Zara was silently chiding me while I shrugged it off.
“Zoe, you’re suspended,” she said voice, low and sad. I know she was guilty. I smiled at her as we silently walks toward the doors
“ Zara, I don’t care. I won’t let them bully my sister, you know?” I said ruefully as I messed her hair.
