The US government operates on the concept of democracy, which the ancient Greeks developed. The US government also borrows many other ideas about politics and government from ancient Greece and Rome. The architects of the modern government buildings probably wanted to acknowledge the role ancient Greece and Rome played in shaping the United States’ political identity. That may be why they used Greek and Roman architectural influences when designing structures such as the US Supreme Court building.
