Women’s Christian Temperance Movement campaigned for Prohibition of the consumption and sale of alcohol.
Further Explanations:
The Women's Christian Temperance Union formed in 1874 aimed at ending the sale and intake of alcohol in the societies of the United States. It was formed to mend social reforms established by Christianity during the Progressive era. The law came into influence on 23rd December 1873 through a national concord held in Cleveland, Ohio banning alcohol. The devotees believed that consumption of alcohol was the main cause behind the suffrage of women in the society.
The adherents wanted to eradicate women's suffrage that was prevailing since ancient eras. Women were prohibited from appearing in the political gathering held during the era and were also obliged to live on the mercy of their hubbies. Men's fond of drinking alcohol was spending money on alcohol instead of spending it in the domestic amenities. As per WCTU alcohol was adulterating morality and culture of the nation. Eventually, they were able to impose a ban on alcohol through the 18th Amendment, Prohibition act.
